Following on from the success of our first ever pre-printed hessians, we’re so excited to launch the first of this season’s brand new designs – our Ragged Life "Flower Power" Pre-Printed Hessian.
This beautiful piece of hemmed hessian (140 x 100cm) comes ready-printed with a floral design inspired by vintage embroidery. That means no more worrying about sketching out your own pattern – the design is done for you, so you can dive straight into the fun part: rag rugging!
Whether you’re a total beginner or an experienced rag rugger, this project is perfect. You can work on it one flower at a time, so it never feels overwhelming, and every finished rug will be completely unique depending on the colours and fabrics you choose. You can use any old clothing or fabric offcuts you’ve got lying around or some of our Ragged Life pre-prepared materials (more on that below) to create something stunning, sustainable and totally yours.
Our Flower Power design would look gorgeous in any of the main British rag rug techniques, but we particularly love how the details shine through with the the loopy, rug hooked style and the short shaggy technique. Choose colours you love and you really can’t go wrong!
As with all our Ragged Life hessian, this is a medium weave (10HPI), which makes it ideal for use with a rag rug hook, spring tool or locker hook. And because it comes pre-hemmed, there’s no fiddly machine sewing to get in the way of your creativity.
With Fabric or Without Fabric?
Our cream, orange, pink and green sampler rug has been rug hooked in the loopy style using a Ragged Life rug hook and an assortment of Ragged Life Wool Blanket Yarns.

Pre-Printed Hessian + Blanket Yarn Bundle (£84.99): includes the Flower Power hessian plus 10 balls of our Ragged Life 100% Wool Blanket Yarn – enough to complete the entire 140 x 100cm rug. SELECT YOUR 10 YARNS BEFORE CHECKING OUT PLEASE This option takes all the stress out of sourcing materials, so you can get started straight away. Buying the blanket yarn as part of this bundle works out to almost half the price of buying the yarn separately - each ball costs only £6, as opposed to our usual £10 / ball. Fully Wool Flower Power Rug Bundle:
To personally select which colour balls of blanket selvedges you receive. Simply add the "Fully Wool Flower Power Rug Bundle" to your basket then browse the "blanket yarns" section of the Ragged Life shop to select ten full sized 250g balls of woollen blanket selvedges to also add to the basket. At checkout, the cost of these ten balls will be subtracted off the total, saving you money on your project. If you'd like for us to choose yarns for you then do not add any blanket yarns to the basket and we will select ones to post out to you.
